First baseman Jeff Bagwell hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI at the
ballpark where the Tampico Stogies beat the Caracas Leones 5 to 1.
Tampico brought 4 runs across the plate in the 7th inning when they had 4 base
hits. The critical plate appearance was by Bagwell who quieted the crowd
when he blasted a two-run home run (his 3rd of the season). Tampico had 10
hits for the afternoon while Caracas had 6.
The win went to Al Leiter(4-2) who allowed 1 run in 6 innings. Leiter was
helped out by Jim Mecir who recorded his 1st save. A.J. Burnett(1-3) was
tagged with the loss.
